Snow

Huh?

Bugs

Surprisingly not a problem. In fact I took my shirt off at the lake for about 10 minutes or so and not one bite. I didn't put on any bug juice either.

Weather

Warm, typical summer day.

Crowds Saw a few people, but not the usual weekend crowd.
Scenic Value I love this lake, finally thawed out.
Difficulty It's a trail. Where it is steep they have built steps. Probably close to 500 of them on the entire route sprinkled around. Trail a bit damp/wet in places, which was a little surprising, however I suspect portions of it never see sun.

Narrative:

Well another after work hike, but something out of the I-90 corridor. Crowds as expected would be much more sparse than the typical weekend.

Lake Serene parking lot just before 3PM Wednesday 08/13/2008 Start of Lake Serene road/trail. Even if the gate was open, you could only get about 1/4 mile before the road washout. My favorite bridge about .25 miles on Lake Serene Trail from parking lot.

In short order the falls junction was reached and passed. A few views noted on way up to lake.

Then a bikini top sighting (well I couldn't exactly take the picture when I passed her.

Lake reached. Nice and pleasant at the lake. A few people here and there, but no crowds.

Ate a snack, walked up to the overlook, took a few pictures.

Chipmunk eating some droppings. View from outlet lookout where falls start to drop. View from outlet lookout where falls start to drop. View from outlet lookout where falls start to drop.

Near that overlook this almost looks like remnants of the old roots and ladders trail.

A few more pictures and down down down...

Lake Serene log bridge over outlet. Lake Serene. Lake Serene.

A few more on the way down. Someone coulda had a V8 but decided to leave it (unopened).

Decided to look for the mine.. Didn't find it but didn't look too hard. Found a memorial.

Apparently related to this:

Trail fork off main Lake Serene Trail in search of a mine.   This is the spot on the map that says Min off Lake Serene trail? Memorial area near mine area Lake Serene trail. Memorial area near mine area Lake Serene trail.

Trip back to car uneventful and didn't see anyone else until after I was at the car.

View in woods just before getting back to Lake Serene Parking Lot.
